“National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) is a new 574,000 square foot biocontainment laboratory facility that will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for developing vaccines, performing diagnostics, and developing countermeasures against large animal foreign animal diseases (FADs) and zoonotic diseases.” USDA, NBAF Design and Construction. The NBAF is going to contain and research some of the most dangerous and deadly diseases known to man. While, Plum Island managed Foot & Mouth Disease, African Swine Fever, and Classical Swine Fever. The new facilities will also continue research on those diseases and add Japanese Encephalitis, Rift Valley Fever, Nipah Virus, Ebola Virus, and Emerging Pathogens.
